Luck Is Back in the Cards for Psychics, Tarot Card Readers, & Fortunetellers in Philadelphia

Just when you were bummed out that you might not be able to have a session with your friendly neighborhood fortuneteller, now you need not worry! They'll be back en masse!
delawareonline | The News Journal, Wilmington, Del. | Good fortune for Philly psychics: City backs off ban:
"PHILADELPHIA — Foreseeing a brighter future, psychics closed down by city licensing authorities under an obscure state law last week have been allowed to reopen again.
City Department of Licenses and Inspections inspectors slapped desist orders last week on at least 16 shops of psychics, astrologers and tarot card readers who charge money for their services. The agency had been alerted to a state law on the books more than 30 years that barred fortunetelling 'for gain or lucre.'"
How did the lucky card pop up? The City Department of Licenses and Inspections was reminded by an attorney that the statute they cited could be called upon to decide cases of fraud but could not be used to create regulations -- besides evidence would be needed to prove that someone was pretending to tell fortunes -- good luck coming up with that evidence. Fortunetellers are back in town.
"Vetus illud Catonis admodum scitum est, qui mirari se aiebat quod non rideret haruspex haruspicem cum vidisset." -- Cicero, De Divinatione, II, 51.
(Old Cato always wondered how two fortunetellers could look at each other without laughing)
