£2.5m Reward to anyone who can help with information leading to the safe return of Madeleine McCann

Madeleine McCann wasn't around to celebrate her 4th birthday with her family because she was was abducted from her apartment bedroom in Praia da Luz holiday village(Algarve, Portugal) on Thursday 3rd of May 2007.

Why did Madeleine's parents (both of whom are physicians) leave 3 toddlers alone in an apartment at the resort of Praia da Luz?
Apparently the parents wanted to eat alone together at a Tapas Bar located in walking distance to the apartment and thought they could check up on the children (this is between 9 PM and 10 PM -- rather a late time slot to leave one's children unattended).

Once a couple has babies, toddlers, it's not always possible to flirt with each other late at night at the Tapas Bar while the very young children are left unattended. It's lovely for a couple to have a romantic meal, but it's not always easy to accomplish with small children: that's what baby sitters or nannies or au pairs are for. The resort had childcare available but at earlier times.
Frankly, it's best to have a vacation closer to home when very young children are involved. Just because anyone is "on holiday" doesn't mean that safety issues can be ignored. Both the parents are doctors so they could have arranged for some type of baby sitter, perhaps an au pair or nanny to help care for their children and to be on the "entertainment committee."

Please be on the lookout for little Madeleine. Many newspapers and websites are referring to her as "Maddie" or "Maddy" but she is used to being called Madeleine.

Oh God this story kills me.
I don't know where parents get crazy notions like this. STOOOPID.
Hopefully the kidnapper is just perhaps a mom who can't bear kids and not a FREAK. We can only pray.
Poor baby.

Any story of a missing child is terrible.
There are many missing children.
Sometimes I wonder if the amount of attention this child's case has received is in proportion to the good looks of this child and her mother (not to mention that both parents are doctors).
I think the parents were wrong to leave 3 children unattended in a hotel/vacation apartment from 9PM until 10 PM while the parents hopped over to a nearby Tapas Bar.
I'd expect more maturity from doctors.

Why didn't the couple hire some sort of baby sitter, nanny or au pair to help look after the children? The resort provided childcare at earlier times, not Tapas Hour.

I don't think that very young children really enjoy traveling; the desire to travel manifests itself at an older age. I think parents of young children should vacation closer to home or if they do travel, someone should be hired to help look after *and* entertain the children.

In addition to this terrible plight, this situation is sad because if the little girl was lost she probably doesn't understand or speak the Portuguese language.

I'm heart broken by this case and by the countless other cases that lack this monumental/international publicity.
