Bobby 'Boris' Pickett Tribute: Thanks for "Monster Mash"
Robert George Pickett, better known as Bobby 'Boris' Pickett has died of leukemia at the age of 69. Bobby 'Boris' Pickett had grown up watching horror films in a theater managed by his father and was famous for his impressions of Boris Karloff. Pickett was a singer and wanna-be actor and the idea of "Monster Mash" was a stroke of genius."The recording session was supervised by the producer Gary Paxton, who also came up with the idea of calling Pickett "Boris" and the backing band the Crypt-Kickers. Pickett added the sound effects, blowing bubbles into a cup of water with a straw for the boiling cauldron and pulling chains up and down. Four major labels rejected the single, but Paxton was undeterred and decided to press a thousand copies on his own Garpax Records. California radio stations began to play "Monster Mash" and it rose to the top in only eight weeks."
The "Monster Mash" was one of Rhianna's favorite songs during her childhood and she still boogies to it.
