"November 15, 2004 — Today, OCLC (http://www.oclc.org) and Yahoo! officially launch a free co-branded toolbar that provides one-click access to Open WorldCat as well as Yahoo! Search’s Web search engine. The free toolbar plugs into Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser. A whirligig OCLC logo to the extreme left on the toolbar clicks to a subset of Open WorldCat (currently 2 million of the 57 million records available in the full WorldCat, reflecting the holdings of some 9,000 libraries). In time, the click-through will access more—perhaps all—of the WorldCat database, as Yahoo! begins to 'harvest' the full file now offered by OCLC. The new toolbar also supports access to other OCLC database services, such as FirstSearch and netLibrary, for those using the toolbar via library networks. "Underscoring the facetious nature of their ongoing tour's title--Farewell I--the Eagles (news | tickets | CDs) return to the U.S. tour circuit early next year.
The classic-rock icons are due to launch the trek in South Carolina on March 5, and dates--which so far focus on the eastern U.S. and Canada--are set through mid April.
Tickets for a number of shows are scheduled to hit the box office in the coming days. Details are shown in the itinerary below.
Word of the 2005 tour and VIP ticket packages coincides with the launch of the band's new website, Eaglesband.com, and also heralds the demise of the band's official online fanclub, a short-lived endeavor launched last year with Yahoo.com.
The fanclub will be 'permanently discontinued' on Dec. 10, according to a message posted at the site, which also contains refund information.
The Eagles' most recent release is last year's 'Eagles -- The Very Best Of.' The 33-track, two-disc set features hits such as 'Hotel California,' 'The Best of My Love,' 'Heartache Tonight,' and 'Life in the Fast Lane.' Also included is a new single titled 'Hole in the World,' as well as 'Please Come Home for Christmas,' which was previously available only as a commercial single.
No word on when an expected new studio album--the group's first since 1979's 'The Long Run'--might surface."

Google gives Gmail POP3 support, plans anti-virus: "Google will roll out POP3 support gradually over the coming weeks to Gmail users, who will be able to use the feature to download e-mail messages from Gmail servers to e-mail applications on devices such as PCs and wireless devices.
With POP3 support, users will be able to transfer their server-based Gmail messages to a client-side e-mail application such as Microsoft's Outlook and have the messages stored on their local hard drive and thus accessible when they are offline. Users with wireless devices that have POP3-compliant e-mail clients will also be able to download their Gmail messages to personal digital assistants or cell phones."

Global warming has disrupted the lives of dozens of types of animals, birds and insects in the United States and will soon make the Arctic nearly unrecognizable, according to two reports released this week.
The reports document sweeping 'you-can-see-them-with-your-own-eyes' ecological changes underway and offer dire predictions of massive species extinctions, an elevation of sea level by 3 feet and widespread disruptions to Earth's life-support systems.
These dramatic changes should be a wake-up call to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and bolster efforts to conserve American wildlife and natural habitat, said Eileen Claussen, president of the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan organization that commissioned the Observed Impacts of Global Climate Change in the U.S. report.
'Continued climate change could drastically alter the U.S. natural landscape,' said Claussen."
