No, what's remarkable about Dracula: The Musical is that, having begun with some of the most powerful source material that popular literature can offer the theater, it achieves absolutely no effect. Nothing is dramatized; nothing is expressed; nothing is frightening or moving or shocking or even campy; everything simply drifts by, pointlessly, from beginning to end. Though it can't be called good in any way, Dracula is too uninteresting to be really bad. Its ineffectuality is a wonder of sorts: the artistic equivalent of the vacuum that nature abhors."

Architect Douglas Forrest has promised the scheme will restore the castle to its former glory and stop it crumbling further into the sea.

But the plans have sparked protests from local people and Dracula fans, who claim they fail to do justice to the history and setting of the site near Cruden Bay.

Protesters also claim the conversion scheme will prevent access by the many visitors who walk along the cliff tops to the castle."

But just how do you define weird and wonderful in this day and age? Most garden centres have a section dedicated to exotics - the palms, bamboos and tree ferns, which help create a jungle feel in even the most suburban garden. "Our ethos is to add a bit of fun to gardening and a bit of drama and theatre," says Kerr.

To that end, the company has devised different themes for their plant collections. One of the most popular is the Gothic collection, featuring plants such as the hollyhock Alcea Rosea Jet Black with its deep maroon black blooms; the day lily Hemerocallis Black Magic with trumpet-shaped blooms in a deep red; and Iris chrysographes Black Night which has deep purple flowers. Pour in the wine and the orange and lime juices and fruit into container. Add the sugar and stir well until it has dissolved. Top with 1 can of lemon/lime soda or plain soda. Chill for 2 hours. Pour into tumblers. Decorate as desired. Serve chilled at once.
