KAKLAMANAKIS lit the cauldron

"ATHENS, 14 August- Nikolaos KAKLAMANAKIS, made history tonight when he carried the torch through the field of play of the Olympic Stadium, as the last bearer to lit the cauldron and get the Games underway.

Atlanta's gold medallist in the Mistral class of Sailing received the torch from Ioannis MELISSANIDIS, a fellow gold Olympic medallist in 1996 Floor Exercises of the Gymnastics Artistic. Legendary basketball player Nikolaos GALLIS entered the Stadium with the flame and run the first leg passing the torch over to another Greek sporting hero, veteran Football player Dimitrios (''Mimis'') DOMAZOS."
